All movers are the same so hire the first one you find
This is a ridiculous statement. There are both fraudulent & reputable companies out there so please do some research about the firms you are considering. Compare their services, rates, reputation, etc. Check places like Angie’s List or the Better Business Bureau for a better insight into the company portfolio.
Moving Company Myths
Boxes are all same
Boxes from the grocery store are made from a different material than professional moving boxes. This is necessary so that both heavy & fragile items can be put into them & secured. Ordinary boxes will tear apart if they are even slightly overloaded. There are varied sizes as well when it comes to moving boxes as different items go into respectively sized boxes.
Payment is done only after everything is unpacked
Every moving has a “pay before unload policy”. The main service provided by these companies is the moving labor, so since they have only received a small moving deposit for the job, movers require full payment before unloading.
All damaged or lost items are covered by moving insurance
Professional movers have a basic liability option. This basic insurance covers only a portion of what is lost or damaged. You can also insure your items for their full value but you need to request a full value protection plan from the movers or a third party insurance company separately.
You are required to ride with the movers
This is silly! In fact, most movers prefer you did not ride with them. It is their job to move your belongings, but not you personally.
Items will be broken at delivery
Movers are professionals who are experienced in handling heavy items like furniture, pianos, television sets, & so on.
